Why Acuña.

God changes lives through Acuña. Come experience and be a part of a community that loves God. That helps each other, their neighbors, their family. They live in really poor conditions, in tiny houses and have immense joy, happiness. These people are not perfect, but they seem to be it. The only reason to live is God and everything they do points towards that. Come see
it for yourself, come learn what God wants to show you and teach you.

My name is Cynthia Peralta and I have been going to Acuña, Mexico for about 5 years. There has been some years that my family and another family would head to Acuña every six weeks. I can’t keep up with the number of visits, but I can assure you that every trip has been unique. God has taught me how to put in practice what I learn in His church and what I read in His Bible. It is also a wonderful place to serve. They have so much need. There is a lot of opportunities. From encouraging little kids to go to school, to painting and building houses, to praying for healing, to jumping ropes with the kids, to encouraging couples in their marriage. Yes, we have an overall idea of what God wants us to do when we go to Acuña, but is God’s Trip, he knows what we are going to do already, He has it all planned out, so we just obey and go when He calls us to do so. I have had the privilege to build the relationships with the people in Acuña. I have seen the kids grow from babies and learn to walk and talk. I have experience weddings, quinceañeras and birthday celebrations. I have seen Pastors cry in awe and in repentance. I have seen churches and a community center get build. All of these and more all funded and provided in miraculous ways that only God can do. Miracles are everywhere in Acuña. They have so little but through it all, their faith grows since they rely on God for everything. This is the way I pursue to live daily, dependant and giving the glory to God for everything. Everytime I go I learn a new way and learn about how God is working everywhere in Acuña.

Acuña is a border town, yes it should be dangerous. I am not saying is not and I don’t want to say its not just because I have not experience it. But God’s presence is so real in this city, that thanks to The Lord in all the trips that I have taken to Acuña, nothing bad has happened. Yes, we get stop by the Police because we go in with big vans but God is awesome and he protects us. We have nothing to hide, we are missionaries, the police knows that. There is no reason to be afraid, after all fear is the opposite of having faith. We do have some guidelines that we follow when we go, just like in every trip I am sure you take, to stay on the safe side.

So if God is calling you to Acuña, come May 27-29th. Join us in an amazing adventure that you will always remember. You will not only meet Mexicans, but Americans that will come with us, lasting friendships and lasting relationships.
Should I mention the food? TexMex is nothing compared to what these mexican brothers and sisters serve us as their food. And don’t even worry about your spanish. If you have ever taken spanish class, even if is just one semester, it will come back to you when you are there, you will have fun with it! They love when people try to speak to them. And if you don’t know spanish, thats why we are there for. We will teach you how to say “Blessings” and a few more basics words. My family of four loves to translate everything, from preachings to song lyrics. You will know what the pastor is saying, and we will gladly translate every conversation that you want to engage on. We are here to serve you. Andale!!! :)

PS: The picture was taken by my good friend Bethany Marie Wagner. She came on the last Acuña Trip during Spring Break. We worked with Millwood Baptist Church to build a house and children's ministry! Here is the link if you want to check her Photography page :) She is awesome! Bethany Marie Photography
